While recently speaking at the Fuel Fest event in Pomona, California, Vin Diesel revealed the studio had asked him to release the “finale of Fast and Furious [in] April 2027.” According to him, the final instalment will be released “under three conditions.”
A Return to Familiar Streets
“I’ve been listening to my fan base. I’ve been listening to all of you who have been asking for three things. The first is to bring the franchise back to LA.” That’s big news, as the first Fast and Furious was filmed in Los Angeles, and bringing it back to its roots would be a fitting way to end it.
“The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing,” he added. According to Diesel, his third condition was “reuniting Dom and Brian O’Connor. That is what you’re going to get!” he told the crowd.
The late Paul Walker played Brian O’Connor until his death during the filming of the seventh Fast and Furious film. By using CGI, as well as his brothers Cody and Caleb, filmmakers were able to finish Walker’s final scenes. If his character does indeed return, similar processes will probably be needed.
While we’re excited to see Fast and Furious return to Los Angeles and bring back a focus on car culture and street racing, reviving Walker’s character won’t be without controversy. O’Connor’s final scene came at the end of Furious 7 when he went on one final drive with Dominic Toretto. It was a tear-jerking send-off to the character.
