This 1959 Porsche 356A Convertible D is one of approximately 1,331 examples manufactured during a single year of production and was built on October 27, 1958. The car has been refinished in red over black leather and is powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Features include a black soft top, 15″ ventilated steel wheels, fender-mounted mirrors, a cabin heater, and bucket seats. This 356A Convertible D was acquired by the seller’s father in 2021, and it was listed on BaT in June 2025. It is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of their father with a copy of the Kardex, the owner’s manual, and a clean Oregon title.
Convertible D models were produced between 1958 and 1959 with coachwork contracted to Karosseriewerke Drauz in Heilbronn, Germany, hence the “D” model designation. All 1,331 were sold as 1959 models, and notable differentiations included roll-up side windows and a windshield that was 3″ taller than the Speedster’s. This example was finished from the factory in Silver Metallic and was repainted red in 1993. Features include a black soft top, dual fender-mounted mirrors, Speedster-style side trim, and body-color bumpers.

The 15″ ventilated steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with Michelin XZX tires measuring 165SR15. The car was factory equipped with drum brakes at each corner.

The bucket seats were reupholstered in black leather under prior ownership, and interior appointments include a cabin heater, a passenger-side grab handle, lap belts, Coco floor mats, and a body-color painted dashboard.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a central 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge monitoring oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 10k miles, approximately 2,500 of which were added under current ownership.

The 1.6-liter flat-four was reportedly rebuilt under prior ownership, at which time a replacement crankcase cover was installed to accommodate a larger oil pump. An oil change and valve adjustment were performed in preparation for the sale. A photo of the removed crankcase cover and stamping are provided in the gallery, along with a photo of the current engine stamping and both case half stampings.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. A photo of transaxle stamping 20495 is shown in the gallery.

A copy of the Kardex lists an October 27, 1958, build date as well as the factory colors and serial numbers.
