Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in a Romanian jail due to drug possession.
The sentence stems from the rapper being stopped by Romanian police last July after he allegedly smoked cannabis on stage at the Beach, Please! Festival in Constanta County.
According to prosecutors, Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was found in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis, and that he’d consumed some while he performance on stage.
He was officially charged with “possession of dangerous drugs, without right, for personal consumption,” according to Romanian news publication Agerpres.
Khalifa had initially been issued a criminal fine of 3,600 lei (which converts to $830) due to “illegal possession of dangerous rugs.” That changed when prosecutors appealed the decision of the court to seek a higher sentence.
As Khalifa does not live in Romania, the country would need to file an extradition request with the United States in order to bring him back to face the charges.
